Community
Community is very important to STAGS, and is a fundamental element of our STAGS values of Support and Generosity
We are very proud of the diversity of the STAGS Community. Throughout the year, we provide opportunities for students to learn about the cultural heritage of their peers and celebrate their similarities and differences. As part of our Pastoral Curriculum we ensure that we have open discussions about a whole spectrum of topics surrounding equity for example, race, gender, LGBTQIA+, challenging stereotypes, culture, diversity. This comes in the form of a weekly Form Time slot called ‘STAGS Talks’ which is then complemented by ‘STAGS Talks About’ club run by our Global Ambassadors to continue the discussions at lunchtime. More can be found in our diversity section.
Through our extensive enrichment programme, students have the chance to attend clubs that are representative of their cultural values. These clubs run by sixth formers and staff, include Fusion Dance Group, Arabic Club, Ummah Society, JSoc, More to Life, Asian Heritage Club and Pride Society and there are many more. We encourage students to propose new clubs if they feel an area of the school community needs a new voice.
STAGS in the Community
STAGS is proud to be part of the St Albans and wider Hertfordshire Community. We work closely with local businesses so that our students are aware of the fantastic future that living and working in this area can provide for them. Events including our Careers Fair, Year 11 Interview Day and our Inspirational Women’s Day careers event are incredibly well received by students and provide a vital link between school and the local labour market and community. We work closely with providers such as Oaklands College and West Herts College so that students at STAGS are fully aware of all the opportunities available to them in their local community. Please see our Employer Engagement and Careers, Enterprise and Employability sections for more information.
Additionally, our Charity and House Captains work throughout the year to raise money for good causes in the local, national and international communities. More details about our current house charities can be found on our House System page and clearly reflect the desire of our students to support causes from within the local community as well as those from further afield, but those are issues that resonate.
We are proud to be a supporter of the St Albans and Hertsmere Women's Refuge and the St Albans and District Foodbank and regularly lead fundraising events and food bank drives to show our support for these local charities.
In addition, we have a long-running connection with the Rotary Club of St. Albans Priory, with our own branch run in school entirely by students. More about this can be found here.
Each year, our Year 11 students are given the opportunity to participate in the National Citizen Service, providing the chance to work on social action projects in the local area and the school has extensive links with St Albans Cathedral, where our annual Christmas Service is held. Students also build links with our local primary schools in a range of ways, from teaching Spanish to undertaking work experience with them.
Employer Engagement
From providing strategic advice to the senior leadership team to mentoring pupils or running enterprise competitions, engagement from employers at St Albans Girls' School can take many forms
What is the motivation for your business to engage with St Albans Girls' School?
- Develop young people’s futures by supporting the development of generic work skills, attitudes and behaviours or specific skills such as STEM;
- Broaden career horizons and improve workforce diversity and social mobility;
- Improve educational and employment prospects for disadvantaged pupils;
- Build a network through which to identify and recruit your future talent;
- Support your own employee development and engagement and their personal and professional development and increase employee engagement by giving back to the community;
- Embed corporate social responsibility priorities by contributing to your local to community.
How can you support Careers, Employabilty and Enterprise Education at St Albans Girls' School?
During the year we host a careers fair in the evening (usually at the start of November), a mock interview day for all Year 11 students in January each year, and on International Women's Day (8 March) we host a speed networking event for students in Year 8. Each of these provide our students with the chance to talk to and learn directly from employers so that they can learn more about the world of work.
As well as this, the school participates in various enterprise competitions and events throughout the year.
Below is a practical guide prepared by the Careers and Enterprise Company and CBI which will provide you with ideas and examples of additional ways that you can support the careers development of our students.

Giving Something Back to School
Through the Alumni Association fundraising, funds are given back to the school to invest in either a memorable, decorative or functional item for the school community to enjoy. To date, the STAGS Alumni Association (previously the Old Girls Association) has funded the following:
- Lectern in the main hall
- Millennium Clock outside the building
- Glass Display Cabinets in Reception for achievements and successes
- Book Vending Machine for the English Department and library which allows students to select a book of their choice
