Communication

At St Albans Girls' School we value communication with parents and carers as the best way to ensure that we effectively support your child's journey with us

As a parent/carer of a STAGS student, we hope you will enjoy a close working partnership with all the staff who teach and support your child. We aim to ensure you are fully informed about all aspects of your child's education with us and very much welcome contact with parents/carers so that we can support you with any difficulties.

Communication at St Albans Girls' School takes place by the following means:

  • Weekly news about the life of the school through STAGSlink
  • Letters regarding events, trips, important notices via email or Edulink
  • Opportunities to meet with teachers at Parents' Evenings, Form Tutor Reviews and Information Evenings for every year group
  • Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Regular Parent Voice opportunities - if you would like to attend, please contact Sally Molloy

If you would like to contact any teacher at St Albans Girls' School about a query in a particular curriculum area then email is the best way, either using the teacher's email address or by sending your email to admin@stags.aetrust.uk and putting 'For the attention of.......' in the subject.

If you have a more general concern, then your child's Director of Learning should be your first point of contact. They can be contacted either by telephone 01727 853134 or email. Guidance on communication to and from school/home is attached below.

Please do not hesitate to contact us about any aspect of your child's school life.

Form Tutor Reviews

It was really fantastic to hear how my child was settling into all aspects of school life. I feel confident that they are well-supported and that any issues would be communicated to me quickly. Thank you!

Year 7 Parent

Every student at St Albans Girls' School is placed in a Form Group with a Form Tutor(s) who sees them every day. Therefore, Form Tutor Reviews are an invaluable opportunity to meet with the member of staff who sees your child the most and can give you an update on all aspects of their school life.

Form Tutor Review takes place online in the spring term for all students. It is a superb opportunity for a mid-year review of how your child is progressing socially and emotionally - any issues that arise can be addressed quickly and effectively following this consultation.

Parents will be informed that the day is approaching and sent information in order to make an appointment for a virtual meeting. The meeting is 5 minutes long to enable form teachers to speak to every child in their form. This is also an opportunity for our SEND Team to meet with families about bespoke ongoing support.

Form Tutors will have general information about academic progress, attendance, and SEND needs. If you have any queries/concerns about individual subject areas, then it is best to contact the teacher or curriculum leader individually via email. Any queries raised on this day will be followed up by relevant staff as part of our robust parental communication system.

Information Evenings

It's amazing how much A Levels have changed since my older daughter took them! Thank you for a very informative overview, I feel I now have a much clearer understanding of the courses my son is taking and can support him much better.

Year 12 Parent

Each new academic year brings new challenges to our students and we want to ensure that parents and carers are fully informed. Therefore Information Evenings are held for all year groups at the start of the academic year. The dates are published on the school calendar and a letter will be sent informing parents that the event is approaching. We would encourage all parents/carers to attend, even if they have already had an older child progress through that year group, as things can change very quickly in education.

In general, the topics covered are:

  • The curriculum that will be followed in that year or the forthcoming year
  • The structure of any external examinations
  • Expectations of students
  • Communication of progress and opportunities for parental involvement
  • Changes to the national education agenda
  • Support offered to both students and parent/carers

Parents Evening

It was invaluable to be able to talk to my daughter's teachers face to face and great to hear she's doing so well in so many areas. We were also able to find out what she needed to do to improve in some of her key subjects areas, identify the support she could access at school and what we could do at home to help.

Year 10 Parent

Whilst reports enable you to see how your child is performing, the chance to discuss how they are doing in class and how they can improve is very important to you as parents and us as teachers. Parents' evenings offer that invaluable time to speak to your child's individual subject teachers and get a specific picture of how they are progressing.

There is a Parents' Evening for each Year Group at a point throughout the school year, and due to parent feedback, are held virtually. Dates are published in advance on the school calendar. A letter will be sent informing parents/carers that the event is approaching, and that appointments can be made on our virtual platform. Instructions for joining appointments are also provided.

The evenings run from 4pm - 7.30pm and appointments are 5 minutes long. Due to high number of teachers who teach your child and the number of classes a teacher teaches in that year group, it may not be possible to have an appointment with all your child's teachers. If there is a teacher you wish to see but can't, please do not hesitate to contact them by email for an update.
